Plan Changes - July 1, 2017

On June 26, 2017, Council approved changes to the Regina Civic Employee’s Long Term Disability Plan, which includes a reduction in contribution rates and an increase in benefits for plan members.

 

Contribution rate changes are:

 

July 1 – December 31, 2017 – “Premium Holiday” where employees and employer will NOT make any contributions into the plan.

 

January 1, 2018 – New contribution rate of 0.46 percent for both employees and employer. This is a 50 per cent reduction from the previous rate of 0.92 percent.

 

In addition, the following changes have occurred to Schedule "A" of Bylaw No. 9566, being The Regina Civic Employees' Long Term Disability Plan, 1992 Bylaw:

 

In section 2.0, subsection 2.1, the following clause is added after clause (17), "Pre-existing Condition" means an accidental injury or illness for which an Employee received medical diagnosis, or treatment during the twelve (12) months before the Employee became covered by the Plan;"

 

In section 2.0, clause 2.1(26), "Total Disability" or "Totally Disabled" increases the duration for which an employee is unable to perform his or her own occupation to twenty-four (24) months.

 

In section 6.0, clause 6.1(1), the amount of benefits approved for payment is increased from 65% to 75%.

 

In section 8.0 subsection 8.2, the Cost of Living Adjustment shall be effective January 1 of each calendar year.
